Implementation of Oracle Warehouse Management Cloud (OWMC) at CICE

Effective logistics management is a strategic factor for any company. The trend of outsourcing logistics services as a means to achieve cost savings while maintaining service quality is becoming increasingly evident. However, for outsourcing to be effective, it must be possible to establish measurements of productivity. The Oracle Warehouse Management Cloud system helps logistics service providers meet customer demands by providing flexibility, robustness, and best practices in the execution of various operational processes, leveraging opportunities, and streamlining resource utilization, resulting in increased profit margins.

These advantages, among others, were taken into account by CICE, a group with more than 30 years of history providing top-level logistics services in port operations, inland terminals, transportation, and storage. CICE's goal in deciding to implement OWMC was to standardize and automate its storage operations, making them more efficient, while also improving inventory control for customers and enhancing their level of service.

With the use of OWMC, CICE now has greater control over warehouse entries through the systematic management of various types of entries, as well as the management of reverse logistics and cross-dock receipts. Once inside the warehouse, the system features directed storage for better inventory visibility and logical arrangement.

During their stay in the warehouse, items can be controlled through attributes such as lot, expiration date, family, serial numbers, etc. The system also has functionality for conducting cycle counts, flexible location management, inventory inquiries, replenishment processes, kitting, and many more features.

Implementation of OTM on Landstar Metro

One of the most costly activities in the entire logistics process is transportation. It involves the use of fuel, whose price is very volatile due to distances traveled, the required personnel, asset depreciation in transportation, and more. Nowadays, more and more companies are looking to implement a Transportation Management System (TMS) to have better control over these expenses through efficient planning while also achieving improved service levels.

Oracle Transportation Management is a tool for managing and visualizing everything that happens during transport deliveries and payment administration to the provider after the entire process is executed. That's why, at the end of 2019, Landstar Metro, a significant company in the transportation logistics network of Landstar North America with extensive experience in transportation between Mexico's major commercial destinations, entrusted Tsol with the responsibility of implementing OTM to manage its operations.

The goal of this implementation was to provide Landstar Metro with a platform for route management, allowing them to increase the utilization of their outsourced fleet, improve the quality of their deliveries, manage payments to their carriers, and enhance container utilization through a control tower scheme. This was achieved through the implementation of the Transportation Management, Transportation Operational Planning, and Fleet Management modules.

Since the go-live with the system and up to the present day, Tsol remains closely engaged with Landstar Metro, providing services through the support and maintenance policy to assist them with adjustments according to their operation's growth and ensuring that the initial project objectives continue to be met."

The trend of adopting cloud services has grown over the past few years, thanks to the multiple advantages it offers. For example, a cloud-based system eliminates all the obligations associated with maintaining and managing on-site infrastructure, including physical equipment and servers, as well as software feature updates.

Additionally, if we are looking for an environment that is always available and accessible from anywhere, cloud-implemented services are the answer. Their technological foundation facilitates access from any location through various mobile platforms.

All of these advantages were on the mind of the company Viakable when they decided to migrate their on-premises OTM (Oracle Transportation Management) system to the cloud.

Viakable specializes in electrical conductors and operates in 8 countries with over 60 years of experience. They have been OTM users since 2014 and have found this tool to be an excellent ally in transport planning, supplier payment management, and GPS-based visibility.

Tsol was the chosen provider to carry out this important project. In making this decision, Viakable took into account aspects such as the expertise of our consultants, Oracle certifications, experience in similar projects, and the use of a proven methodology for achieving successful implementations. Through collaborative work between consultants and the client, we achieved a successful migration of the OTM Core, Planning, FTI, and Freight Management modules.

The excellent collaboration between Tsol and Viakable, and the trust they have placed in our team, has led to subsequent projects, such as the implementation of OTM Mobile and configurations to comply with the requirements dictated by authorities regarding Carta Porte

At Tsol, we have a team of consultants, implementers, and support staff for everything related to the OTM tool, and that's why we work closely with Solistica on the following:

 

Design/Configuration to Optimize Routing through OTM: Solistica requested consulting services to identify best practices in configuring the tool to optimize their routing, taking into account business and operational rules.

Rollout of Optimal Routing: Once the Optimal Routing configuration was completed and approved, Solistica sought our support in replicating this configuration across 16 distribution centers (CEDIs) nationwide. We participated in fine-tuning the configuration for each CEDI and provided training sessions for personnel, as well as post-go-live support for each CEDI.

Regarding the Carta Porte topic, we assisted with designing a solution and implementing the configuration using OTM data.
